OTTAWA (BP) -- Following a 24-13 loss that snapped a 3 game win streak last week, the Ballers burst back into their regular form with a 38-3 win against the Ottawa Chiefs. The win was highlighted by a superb effort by the defense and an excellent performance by the offensive line.
"We went out there and just did what we were supposed to do," DT Sir John Law-Rosa said who finished with 2 tackles, 1 hurry, and 1 tackle for loss. "The whole team just stepped it up this week and we played Ballers football."
Law-Rosa led a defensive charge that pummeled the Chiefs all day long. 8 hurries, 2 INT's, and a sack were the highlights of a defense that emulated the Steel Curtain and Purple People Eaters.
"It was a group effort that culminated in guys making some really nice plays," CB Beast Baily remarked who had 2 INT's which brings his conference leading season total to 5. "It was a team we should have beat, but I'm still impressed that we went out and played so well."
The offense too had their share of success. Captivated by the stellar play of QB Khari Jones, the offense had its best game yet. The offensive line combined for 45 pancakes, QB Khari Jones threw for 3 scores, and WR's Mark Byrne and Sterling Driver had 20 catches and 3 scores combined. Khari Jones marveled at the way the team pulled together offensively.
"I think what we did this week that was different than the other weeks was that we just came out and put everything on the line. In the previous 5 weeks we came out and worried so much about making mistakes and not getting points that we lost focus and confidence in ourselves. I really have to credit all of the guys and coaching staff for drawing up a great gameplan and executing it."
In addition to Jones's stellar play, the offensive line provided protection all game long. They had 45 pancakes and did not give up a single sack.
"We just had great chemistry today and worked together as a cohesive unit," OT Fatty McMuffin said who had 14 pancakes himself. "It's great to see the other guys out there getting flattened on their back every other play instead of you yourself."
The Ballers next opponent will be the 3-3 Mooresville Anglers. The Anglers lost today 19-13 against the TSW Titans and still cling to the 8th and final playoff spot in the West. Also an intersting note: In their 3 wins Mooresville averages 38 points per game, but in their 3 losses they average a 8 points per game. So clearly when the Anglers are hot you can't stop them, but when they're not (to put it bluntly) they are pretty damn awful.
*Game ball goes to Beast Baily for his 2 INT, 2 PD performance. It was tough picking a game ball recipient this week because everyone did so great! Let's hope next week is the same result!*
