Mt. Oread's Stifling Defense Holds Ballers 19-3

BLACKSBURG (BP) -- The Blacksburg Ballers approached today's game in a different sense than they had all year. Comments by Mt. Oread's owner JibJabz saying that the Ballers did not belong in the same "league" as Mt. Oread fueled resentment and anger from the Ballers's locker room. Unfortunately these high emotions did not translate onto the field with Blacksburg losing 19-3.

The Ballers's offense struggled the entire game to even move the ball and mustered only 130.5 total yds of offense. QB Khari Jones had one of his most difficult games in his career, only throwing for 98 yds and unable to find the end zone.

"It was frustrating to say the least," A dejected Khari Jones told the Blacksburg Press. "When you come in fired up like we were, it is just like someone sticking a knife into you when a game like this happens."

The running game fared no better than Jones. The offensive line could not open up any holes and it was difficult to even get any positive rushing yds. The Ballers had a paltry 32.5 total rushing yds and Alex Casino told the press he had never experienced anything like this.

"Just the amount of pressure we had coming from all directions hit me like a ton of bricks. There were no lanes we could go through and Mt. Oread deserves a lot of credit because they dominated the line of scrimmage. We just couldn't pull together like they did and fix our mistakes."

The Ballers did manage to thwart the Hawk Stars from scoring a TD until the second quarter.
However despite the solid defensive showing, the lone TD Blacksburg gave up was so demoralizing that they were never able to get back in the game.

"It's just difficult when they have a guy like Bill who can manage the game and just throw the lights out," CB Beast Baily said. "We had 2 of our CB's as the top 2 tacklers for this game, that certainly tells you something."

It certainly did as Hawk Stars QB Bill Whittemore completed over 70% of his passes and managed to pass over 200 yds. Coach kb2120 was not happy about the effort and execution of the defense.

"It's very difficult to make plays and beat teams when we can't make big plays. Granted Greg and Mike had sacks, but we just could not make that turnover or stop them on 3rd down that would have changed the momentum. We really need to get back to the drawing board and devise a gameplan that is going to allow us to do this. Because right now we're not and it's not acceptable to have 2 corners leading us in tackles."

Next week the Ballers play the 1-12 Strathmore Devils who are last place in the Western Conference. The Devils have not scored a singled point in 6 consecutive weeks and have 4 times given up 100 points or greater. Clearly if Blacksburg wants to get back to form offensively this would be the game.

*Despite the loss guys it was a really hard fought game and I commend everyone's effort. Graz Manius gets the game ball for one hell of a swim move and 6 yard sack. Let's rebound next week and revive our win streak
