Ballers Lose Opener 21-10

THUNDER BAY (BP) -- The Blacksburg Ballers opened their second season today in losing form, 21-10 against the Thunder Bay Storm. The team had troubles offensively scoring points and gave up crucial plays defensively.

"We gave up some key plays to them and the ball seemed to bounce their way," Blacksburg LB Aaron Wilson said referring to the 13 yd TD tipped by S Bill Clinton. "Overall I think the team played better than what the score reflected, but we just need to come back next week playing more aggressively."

The Ballers mustered only 21.5 rushing yds while Thunder Bay racked up 114.5. Leading rusher Dan Etheridge could not find much running room, only gaining 13 yds on 8 carries.

"It was very tough finding running room today," RB Dan Etheridge said. "Holes just closed up and things just didn't develop for us. I think next game we should have a bit more success on the ground."

Despite the poor rushing effort, the Ballers threw for 226.5 yds through the air and QB Khari Jones opened the season with a 1 TD effort that came in the 3rd quarter. Jones told the press he liked what the offense did.

"We had some nice drives going, but I think what we need to do is get that running game going. Dan [Etheridge] had a tough time finding anything and I don't think it's anyones fault its just that to Thunder Bay's credit they played excellent."

The Ballers however were not perfect. They had 3 turnovers in the game, 2 fumbles and 1 interception. And Thundery Bay only had 1 turnover on an interception by Oscar Michael Jordan Robertson. Head coach Mike told the press he doesn't like the mistakes the team made.

"They were foolish mistakes and if you're going to play in this league you can't do that. Thunder Bay capitalized on their opportunities and made the most of them. We did not and next game we'll just have to secure the ball and be more careful."

The Ballers next game is on Tuesday at the Forumopolis Fighting Llamas. The Llamas come in 1-0 after a 10-3 win over the TSW Titans.

*The game ball will go to Chuy Miller for his 11 tackle, 2 tackle for loss, 1 pass defended effort. Nice game Chuy and everyone else!*
