Season 1 Player Awards

BLACKSBURG, Virginia (BP) -- The Blacksburg Ballers have finished a season that included a playoff berth and huge contributions from key players in all positions. To honor these players the Blackburg Press has a few awards to give out:

Offensive Player of the Year - RB, Dan Etheridge

Etheridge brought a tenacity to a once struggling running game. With the arrival of key offensive lineman and Etheridge he exploded for an excellent season with over 400 yds and 3 TD's. Etheridge won multiple game balls and catapulted an offense that at times struggled.

Defensive Player of the Year - CB, Beast Baily

Baily may not have been the flashiest player on the field but he was definitely one of the most valuable. Racking up 11 passes defended, 1 forced fumble, and 24 tackles Baily was a stellar corner that shut down each team's leading receiver.

Special Teams Player of the Year - K, Troy Westwood

Despite having ups and downs during the year, Westwood is remembered for his overtime kick against Mt. Oread which helped Blacksburg get to the playoffs. Westwood has been improving week by week and has established himself as one of the premier kickers in the Canadian AA.

Built Ford Tough Hustle Player of the Year - QB, Khari Jones

Jones battled constant pressure from tenacious defenses in the Canada AA and threw for over 2000 yds and 6 TD's. He was one of the locker room leaders and rallied the team numerous times on and off the field.

Best Hair - LB, Michael Beasley

Is it a fro? Is it something else? Only Beasley can tell you. His hair is one of the most unique masterpieces ever created and puts even Michaelangelo's Sistine Chapel to shame.

Best Swag - LB, Chuy Miller

Miller took the field like Denzel in Training Day. A little rough on the edges but you knew the guy had swag like American Gangster.

Best Name - CB, Oscar Michael Jordan Robertson

When you have the greatest basketball player of all time and one of the most versatile players in the game all in your name, you've got one hell of a signature.

MVP - QB, Khari Jones

Stats don't lie, but leadership doesn't either and that's what Jones had to help lead the Ballers to the playoffs. He threw one of the best balls in the game and helped the team win 4 straight at one point. His leadership skills and his ability to help jump start the offense is why he is here.
