BLACKSBURG (BP) -- For the first time in team history the Blacksburg Ballers shut out an opponent. The Ballers dominated every facet of the game and showed it with a 16-0 whopping of the Sofa Kings. Defensive Coordinator Kage gave his thoughts.
"The effort shown by the defense and the execution was impeccable. I have never seen a better performance by a defense in my life."
The Ballers held the Sofa Kings to just under 200 yds total offense, 103.5 rushing and 88 passing. They forced 4 turnovers and 8 punts. CB Beast Baily once again had a stellar game, this time intercepting 2 passes.
"The whole secondary played well and on those interceptions all I did was read the QB's eyes and jump on it. I think if our defense keeps playing like this week in and week out we should be there in the end."
The same could not be said for the Blacksburg offense which had a tough time against a very formidable Sofa King defense. They were held under 300 yds of total offense, sacked once, and hurried 5 times.
"It was tough to find any running room," RB Alex Casino said after a 56 yard 17 carry effort. "The whole running game got bottled up there at the line of scrimmage and we just couldn't get any big plays. The Sofa Kings had a tough front 7, but I think if we just keep pounding it at teams in the coming weeks we should do better."
QB Khari Jones had a tough outing as well. Going 30 for 62, 203 yards and 1 TD. Jones was hurried 5 times, sacked once, and forced into throwing under 50% completion.
"It's tough when you have a team that has such an elite secondary," Jones said. "They had some great ballhawks out there pouncing on every play. Thankfully our defense stepped up and our receivers made some critical catches."
The Baller will play the 0-3 Abbotsford Miners next week. The Miners are one of the basement teams in the Canadian AAA and should be a very easy win for the Ballers.
*Game ball will go to Beast Baily for the second straight week. 2 INT's, 1 PD, and 1 FR great effort Beast and great game everyone else!*
